Virat Kohli might not be in India’s team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024

India may opt not to include Virat Kohli in their lineup for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, slated to be held in the USA and West Indies starting from June 1.

Following India’s disappointing defeat in the 2022 T20 World Cup, where they were ousted by England in the semi-finals, Kohli abstained from T20I matches for over a year. Despite Kohli’s return to the T20 format earlier this year for a series against Afghanistan, his performance failed to meet expectations. While his teammate Rohit Sharma excelled in all matches, Kohli’s performance in the two matches he played was below par.

Sharma has been officially appointed as the captain for the 2024 World Cup by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah. However, Kohli’s inclusion in the team remains uncertain.

The selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, is contemplating the exclusion of Kohli from the squad. They believe that at 35 years of age, Kohli may no longer possess the requisite skills for the T20 format. With India failing to secure an ICC tournament victory since 2013, the selection committee aims to make a bold decision, and Kohli might be impacted by this deliberation.
