A Stanford University study analyzed data from over 700,000 people across 46 countries to find global physical activity patterns. Using smartphones to track daily steps, the study found significant differences in activity levels worldwide.
Indonesia had the lowest average daily steps at 3,513, followed by Saudi Arabia (3,807) and Malaysia (3,963). India was noted as one of the most inactive countries, with an average of 4,297 steps per day. The study linked India’s low activity levels to rapid urbanization and lifestyle changes, particularly in major cities where people rely more on motorized transport and spend more time indoors.
