Umerkot Doctor Accused of Blasphemy Shot Dead in Police Encounter

A doctor from Umerkot, accused of sharing blasphemous posts, was shot dead during a gun battle with police in Mirpurkhas. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Asad Chaudhry, the doctor and an accomplice were on a motorcycle when police tried to stop them for a search. The suspects opened fire, and the doctor was later identified with a pistol in his hand after being injured in the exchange. He was taken to Mirpurkhas Civil Hospital but died from his injuries. The police filed charges against him for attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm. Prior to this incident, religious groups had protested for his arrest.
