Trump’s USAID suspension risks a severe water crisis in Pakistan’s hottest city

An NGO has raised concerns over the Trump administration’s decision to halt foreign aid, warning that Pakistan’s hottest city, Jacobabad, could face severe water shortages. With rising global temperatures, access to clean water is vital in combating climate change. The suspension of USAID funding has disrupted a $66 million project launched in 2012 to improve Sindh’s municipal services, including upgrading a key pumping plant and purifying water from a canal 22 km away. A Pakistani non-profit stated that blocking $1.5 million threatens the long-term water supply. Jacobabad, where temperatures exceed 50°C in summer, faces extreme heat waves, leading to severe health risks like dehydration and heatstroke.
