Transgender students in Lahore will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 10,000

The Lahore Education Authority has taken a progressive stride by introducing a monthly stipend of Rs10,000 for transgender individuals enrolled in government schools. The pioneering initiative has been implemented at the Government Girls High School in Garden Town.

This monthly stipend comprises Rs5,000 as a regular allowance and an additional Rs5,000 allocated for transportation, contingent on maintaining an attendance rate of at least 80 percent. Nayyar Iqbal, the District Education Officer, underscored their commitment to extending such support in response to demand.

For the past year, the Garden Town school’s classes for transgender students have been offering not only free education but also textbooks and meals. This underscores a comprehensive and inclusive approach to education, reflecting the commitment to creating an environment that supports the diverse needs of students.
