Thunderstorm and rain are forecasted in Karachi starting today

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy downpours expected in Karachi today.

According to a press release issued on Wednesday, the PMD stated that a westerly wave is influencing Balochistan, and as a result, Karachi may experience thunderstorms or rainfall from today (Wednesday) until Friday morning.

Additionally, other areas likely to receive rainfall include Jamshoro, Dadu, Naushahro Feroze, Sanghar, Hyderabad, Mitiari, T.M Khan, T. Allayar, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Kambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Sukkur, and Ghotki districts.

Meanwhile, the PMD has also cautioned about the risk of flash flooding in local nullahs/streams in various areas of Balochistan.

“Heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, and Manshera from 18th to 20th April,” the weather report stated.

“There is a possibility of landslides in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan, which may impact vulnerable areas from 18th to 21st April.”
