The number of tax filers has doubled this fiscal year, says the Finance Minister

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb announced that tax filers have nearly doubled this fiscal year, with 723,000 new people registering. This increase follows strict measures approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on September 20, including a ban on financial transactions for non-filers. Speaking with the FBR chairman in Islamabad, Aurangzeb emphasized the government’s focus on curbing tax evasion, which he estimates costs around Rs1.3 trillion. He noted that creating a documented economy is key for Pakistan’s progress, with the actual economy size estimated at over $700 billion.
