SC acquits man after 12 years in jail on false rape charge

The Supreme Court has acquitted a man previously sentenced to 12 years in prison on charges of raping his minor daughter, citing contradictions in the prosecution’s evidence. Justice Ali Baqar Najafi ruled that the case lacked trustworthy evidence, ordering the man’s immediate release if not wanted in any other case. The accused was initially arrested in 2010 after allegations by his daughter and was later awarded a life sentence under Section 376(1) of the Pakistan Penal Code, a decision upheld by the Lahore High Court in 2013.
