Saudi Arabia plans to construct the world’s only stadium with a retractable roof, pitch, and LED wall on a 200m-high cliff

In Saudi Arabia, the Qiddiya Investment Company (QIC) has revealed the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium, a state-of-the-art facility located in Qiddiya City, a mere 40-minute drive from Riyadh. Perched atop the 200m-high Tuwaiq cliff, this cutting-edge stadium is strategically designed to host significant sports, entertainment, and cultural events.

Distinguishing the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium is its distinction as the world’s first fully integrated venue, boasting a unique combination of a retractable roof, pitch, and LED wall.

This architectural breakthrough bestows unparalleled versatility, enabling the venue to swiftly adapt to different “event modes” within hours. The LED wall functions as a dynamic portal, showcasing live event broadcasts, high-definition films, and captivating laser shows, ensuring visitors a singular and immersive experience.

Beyond its utilitarian features, the stadium’s design aims to redefine the conventional stadium experience by offering breathtaking views of Qiddiya City when the LED wall is not in active use.

Abdullah bin Nasser Aldawood, QIC’s Managing Director, envisions the venue as a global hub for entertainment, sports, and culture, embodying the core principles of Qiddiya’s Power of Play philosophy.

Anticipated to attract visitors from around the globe, the stadium aspires to become a landmark destination for major events, symbolizing a new era in entertainment and architectural innovation.
