The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) accepted Babar Azam’s resignation as captain of the white-ball cricket team, stating he still has much to contribute. Babar announced his decision in a late-night tweet, mentioning the added workload of captaincy and his need to focus on playing. He became T20 captain in 2019 and took charge of the Test and ODI teams in 2020. After a disappointing performance in the Asia Cup and World Cup, he stepped down in November, with Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shan Masood replacing him. Babar returned as captain in March but led the team to an early exit from the T20 World Cup in the US and West Indies. The PCB noted that Babar’s decision reflects his desire to make a bigger impact as a player.
