Pakistan’s Sohail Adnan made history by winning the British Junior Open Squash Championship, ending an 18-year drought for his country in the prestigious tournament.
Adnan claimed victory in the Under-13 category, defeating Egypt’s top-seeded player, Moeez Tamer Al-Maghazi, in a thrilling final. Despite being down 1-2, Adnan made a stunning comeback to win 3-2. The final score was 11-5, 5-11, 11-6, 7-11, 5-11.
This victory marked the first time since 2007 that a Pakistani player won the British Junior Open Under-13 title. The last Pakistani to achieve this was Nasir Iqbal, who won 18 years ago.
Adnan’s win adds to his impressive achievements, including back-to-back victories at the US and Scottish Junior Opens in December. Throughout the tournament, the rising star displayed exceptional skill, including a 3-0 win over Malaysia’s Wain Isaac Wilson in the pre-quarterfinals, with scores of 11-4, 11-7, 11-5.
