Pakistan to Begin Exporting Surplus Gas Internationally from January 1: Petroleum Minister

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik has announced that Pakistan will start selling its surplus LNG in the international market from January 1. Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, he said the country’s LNG imports from Qatar and Eni have created a surplus due to reduced domestic demand, especially in the power sector. As power plants cut their LNG usage or shift to alternative fuels, unused gas risks becoming a financial burden. Earlier reports also warned that the surplus could lead to major economic losses if left unutilized. To avoid this, the government has decided to export the extra LNG instead of letting it go to waste.
