Pakistan Retaliates: Trade, Ties, and Flights Suspended in Response to India’s Actions

Pakistan has suspended trade, bilateral agreements, and airspace usage with India in response to a series of aggressive actions taken by New Delhi following the deadly Pahalgam attack in India-held Kashmir. The decision was announced on Thursday after a high-level meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) in Islamabad, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and attended by top civil and military leaders. A key trigger for Pakistan’s response was India’s unilateral suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, a landmark agreement mediated by the World Bank that has withstood decades of tension. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the NSC reviewed India’s April 23 decisions, condemning them as politically driven, legally baseless, and dangerously provocative. The committee also expressed deep concern over the loss of 26 lives in the Pahalgam incident, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to regional stability while strongly rejecting India’s recent moves.
