The government and military have collaborated to recover Rs105 billion in a nationwide campaign to combat power theft. This initiative is designed to bolster the economy and address Pakistan’s ongoing energy crisis.
From June 30 to July 17, operations were conducted in major cities including Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Islamabad, Peshawar, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Quetta. These efforts led to the recovery of Rs2.03 billion and the arrest of over 83,000 individuals involved in electricity theft.
This crackdown is part of a broader strategy to eradicate power theft across the country. The power sector has faced significant challenges in bill collection, particularly in Punjab, where recovery issues are as substantial as the combined demand of KPK and Balochistan. Moving forward, the focus will be on identifying the actual units of electricity and gas lost to theft. The government stresses the importance of accountability in addressing this issue and is committed to continuing its efforts to reduce power theft throughout Pakistan.
