Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari addressed the issue of high electricity costs in Pakistan at the National Youth Convention. He clarified that the actual power generation capacity is 29,000 MW, not 45,000 MW as commonly believed. Leghari mentioned upcoming reforms for Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to reduce electricity costs for both the public and industry. He also suggested that by enduring 85 hours of load shedding annually, Pakistan could save Rs 50 billion, and with 874 hours, the savings could reach PKR 100 billion in capacity payments.
