LESCO, Power Companies Accused of Robbing Rs. 244 Billion from Pakistanis

A shocking audit by the Auditor General of Pakistan has revealed that eight major power distribution companies, including LESCO, IESCO, MEPCO, and QESCO, overcharged consumers by Rs244 billion in a year. The report exposed billing for nearly 900 million fake electricity units, with Rs47.81 billion collected from 280,000 customers in just one month. Farmers were hit hardest, as QESCO alone overbilled Rs148 billion for tube well usage. The audit uncovered false charges through suspicious “load adjustments” on over 1,400 feeders. Although some refunds were issued, the process was poorly managed, leaving many without fair compensation. The report has sparked public outrage and calls for strict action and accountability.
