In a landmark ruling, the Lahore High Court has upheld a woman’s right to receive her dower (haq mehr) even if she seeks divorce through khula, especially in cases of abuse. Justice Raheel Kamran Sheikh stated that dower ensures financial security for women and cannot be denied simply because the wife initiates separation. The decision came after a woman reported facing violence during her nine-year marriage. The court ruled in her favor, reinforcing that denying dower in such cases is both unfair and unjust.
