Heavy storms in the Gulf caused flooding. In Oman, 18 people have died

Torrential rains and strong winds struck parts of the Gulf on Tuesday, leading to a death toll of 18 in Oman, including many children.

In Dubai, flights were canceled and schools closed due to the severe weather, while flooding affected areas of both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, causing traffic disruptions.

The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology predicted continued storms for Wednesday, with some desert regions receiving nearly their annual average rainfall in just one day.

Authorities urged residents to take precautions and avoid flooded areas. In Dubai, 17 flights were canceled and three were diverted, while Bahrain also experienced heavy rain and flooding.

The storms originated in Oman, where they caused deadly floods and left dozens stranded. The death toll rose to 18, with nine schoolchildren and three adults among the victims who were swept away in flash floods.
