Germany Announces Immediate End to Afghan Refugee Program

The German government has announced the immediate termination of its Afghan refugee program, citing security concerns and involvement of some refugees in criminal activities, with authorities blocking entry for 640 Afghan nationals awaiting approval; the Interior Ministry confirmed that prospects for Afghans planning to travel to Germany have ended, while reports indicate Germany deported Afghan nationals linked to 28 criminal cases in 2024 and 81 cases in 2025 amid limited international engagement with Afghanistan due to the Taliban’s hardline policies.
