France Approves Bill Banning Social Media Use for Children Under 15

France has approved a bill in the National Assembly banning social media use for children under 15, which now awaits Senate approval. The legislation addresses rising concerns over online harassment and the impact of excessive social media on minors’ mental health. It also proposes extending the existing ban on smartphone use from middle schools to high schools. French President Emmanuel Macron has supported the move, citing social media as a factor in increasing violent behavior among youth and backing restrictions similar to those implemented in Australia to protect children online.
