Five IPPs Cancel Power Deals, Rs 60 Billion Relief for Consumers: PM Shehbaz

The government is ending contracts with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to save Rs60 billion annually and cut electricity costs. The move, approved in a cabinet meeting led by PM Shehbaz Sharif, is expected to save Rs411 billion in total. Initial terminations include HUBCO, Lalpir, Saba Power, Rousch Power, and Atlas Power, with no additional payments for their remaining dues. PM Sharif commended these IPPs for ending contracts to benefit the public and announced future energy reforms to further reduce tariffs.
