Pakistan’s government has approved major amendments to the Army, Air Force, and Navy Acts, officially appointing Field Marshal Asim Munir as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) until 2030. Implemented under the 27th Constitutional Amendment, the reforms abolish the post of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and formally recognize top military ranks including Field Marshal, Marshal of the Air Force, and Admiral of the Fleet. Officials clarified that no new positions like Vice or Deputy Chief of Army Staff are being created. The restructuring aims to improve defence coordination, policy efficiency, and inter-service unity under a unified command — marking a historic shift in Pakistan’s military leadership system.
