Earth will temporarily capture a small asteroid, 2024 PT5, from September 29 to November 25. Discovered by NASA’s ATLAS system, this 10-meter-wide asteroid will follow a horseshoe path around Earth but won’t complete a full orbit. It likely comes from the Arjuna asteroid belt.
While Earth has captured asteroids before, PT5 will escape after 53 days. This brief encounter provides a unique opportunity to observe how our planet interacts with space and influences nearby celestial objects.
