CTD official DSP Ali Raza assassinated in Karachi

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) CTD Investigation Ali Raza and a security guard were tragically killed in an attack in Karimabad on Sunday night, according to police and hospital officials.

Senior CTD official Raja Umer Khattab informed Media that DSP Raza, a respected figure within the CTD, was targeted in an assassination attempt at Shakeel Corporation, Karimabad, Block 1. The assailants, who arrived on a motorcycle, opened fire indiscriminately as DSP Raza was leaving the area in his bulletproof vehicle.

Sadly, DSP Raza sustained critical injuries from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, neck, and head. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead on arrival at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH). Additionally, a security guard from a private company, Waqar, also sustained severe gunshot wounds and passed away during treatment at Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

DSP Raza was known for his extensive work against banned outfits like Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), sectarian groups, and sub-nationalist factions. He had previously served closely with SP Chaudhary Aslam Khan of the Crime Investigation Department (CID), who was tragically killed in a suicide bombing.

The tragic incident has prompted Chief Minister (CM) Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah to express deep sorrow and anger. He has instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh to conduct a thorough inquiry into the attack and submit a detailed report.

Meanwhile, CTD DIG Asif Ejaz Shaikh reported that the assailants fired a total of 11 bullets during the attack. The funeral procession for DSP Raza proceeded to Imambargah in Ancholi following a post-mortem examination at ASH.

IGP Sindh emphasized DSP Raza’s significant contributions to the CTD, noting his involvement in high-profile cases related to various criminal groups. He cautioned against premature conclusions regarding the motive behind the assassination, urging a careful investigation into the incident.

The loss of DSP Raza and the security guard has deeply impacted the law enforcement community and prompted widespread mourning across Sindh.
