Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch dismissed rumors on Thursday suggesting that U.S. president-elect Donald Trump might try to influence Pakistan’s internal politics.
Republican candidate Trump secured a surprising victory over Democratic rival Kamala Harris in the recent U.S. presidential election.
Following Trump’s announcement of his 2024 campaign, unverified claims began circulating on social media, speculating that his win could benefit Imran Khan and strengthen U.S.-Pakistan relations.
However, senior PTI leader and former spokesman Raoof Hassan clarified that no one in the party believed Khan’s release depended on Trump’s election. Labeling these claims as “propaganda,” Hassan emphasized that Khan’s release could only happen if PTI engages in dialogue with the country’s powerful establishment.
During a weekly press briefing, Baloch was asked if Trump’s administration might attempt to influence Pakistan’s domestic affairs should he win the presidency. She reaffirmed that Pakistan’s internal politics would remain unaffected.
