The government of Balochistan has informed the Election Commission of Pakistan that holding a by-election in NA-256 Khuzdar is currently not feasible due to the prevailing law and order situation in the district.
During a briefing with ECP officials, the province’s chief secretary and inspector general of police said that the presence of militants, tribal disputes, and the requirement to deploy security personnel from other districts have made it difficult to conduct the election.
Officials further stated that the constituency’s mountainous terrain and unstable security conditions make it challenging to ensure full protection for voters and election staff.
However, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja reiterated that the commission is constitutionally bound to hold the by-election as required under the law.
