Pakistan Likely to Raise Petrol Price by Rs100/Litre as Govt Cuts Subsidy Amid Rising Costs

The federal government is reportedly considering a major increase in petrol and diesel prices, with potential hikes of up to Rs. 100 per litre, as part of efforts to reduce fuel subsidies and manage rising fiscal pressures caused by higher global oil prices and import costs. The proposal was discussed in a high-level meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, where officials and provincial representatives reviewed the existing subsidy system and explored ways to share the financial burden. Authorities are also evaluating plans to gradually pass on increased costs to consumers while maintaining targeted subsidies for vulnerable groups such as motorcyclists and farmers who rely heavily on fuel for their livelihoods.
