The Federal Constitutional Court has issued its written verdict while disposing of the case related to the killing of journalist Arshad Sharif, stating that no further judicial intervention is required at this stage. In the judgment authored by Justice Aamer Farooq, the court noted that a Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) agreement between Pakistan and Kenya has already been signed and that both governments are taking appropriate steps in the matter. The court formally disposed of the suo motu proceedings along with all related petitions, while acknowledging the grief of the journalistic community and the people of Pakistan over Arshad Sharif’s death. The verdict clarified that the victim’s family may approach relevant courts if needed and added that decisions regarding approaching international forums fall under the government’s discretion and foreign policy. The court also observed that no objections have been raised against the actions taken so far by the Special Joint Investigation Team.
