Kazakhstan Bans Hijab in Public Places Over Identity Concerns

Kazakhstan has officially banned face-covering clothing in public spaces after President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a new law aimed at improving public security. The law prohibits any attire that obscures facial recognition, with exceptions for medical, weather-related, sporting, or cultural purposes. While the legislation does not directly mention religious garments, experts say it mainly targets the niqab. President Tokayev has urged citizens to embrace traditional Kazakh attire over face-covering garments, highlighting the importance of preserving national identity.
