A tragic 50-hour rescue operation in Karachi’s Lyari area ended on Sunday after a five-storey residential building collapsed, claiming 27 lives and injuring 11 others. Civil Hospital Karachi confirmed that the victims included 11 women, 16 men, and a toddler. Many casualties were from the Hindu community, with most suffering severe head injuries. The last body recovered was that of 15-year-old Muhammad Zaid, who lost his father and two brothers in the incident. Over 95% of the debris was cleared, and valuables found were handed to authorities. Narrow streets and overcrowding hampered rescue efforts.
