Salaried Class Pays Highest Income Tax of Rs130 Billion in Three Months

The salaried class has emerged as the largest contributor to Pakistan’s income tax in the first quarter of the 2025–26 fiscal year, paying Rs130 billion between July and September — up from Rs110 billion during the same period last year, marking an 18% increase. This growth highlights stronger tax compliance and better collection efficiency among salaried workers. However, despite the rise in income tax from this segment, Pakistan’s overall revenue fell short by Rs200 billion in the first quarter. Officials attributed part of the shortfall to a Rs70 billion loss in tax revenue caused by floods that severely disrupted business activities and economic operations across several regions.
