PTA Blocks 826,000 Stolen Phones, 55 Million Fake Devices Across Pakistan

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken major steps to curb illegal and fake mobile phones in the country. Through its DIRBS system, PTA has blocked over 826,000 stolen phones and more than 55 million counterfeit devices from accessing local networks. This crackdown is helping control the black market and protect genuine consumers. Since 2019, the mobile phone industry in Pakistan has rapidly expanded, with 136 million phones assembled locally. In 2024 alone, over 31 million handsets were produced in local factories, reflecting the strong growth of the sector. Today, 94% of mobile phones used in Pakistan are locally manufactured, reducing reliance on imports. With 36 assembly plants creating jobs for 60,000 people and generating over Rs. 83 billion in revenue, the PTA’s efforts are driving economic growth and securing the mobile market.
