A pilot has died after two light aircraft collided mid-air in Sydney’s south-west on Sunday morning. The Van’s RV-7 planes were part of a four-aircraft formation flight; one landed safely while the other crashed, killing the pilot. Emergency services responded to Napper Field in Wedderburn around 11:50 am. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is investigating, examining wreckage, flight data, maintenance records, and weather conditions. A preliminary report is expected in two months. Witnesses and footage are being sought to aid the investigation.
