Pakistan’s international debt has seen a continuous uptick, surging to a substantial figure of Rs 63,966 billion as of the conclusion of the fiscal year 2023-24.
Foreign debt has also experienced an increase, reaching $24,174 billion, while domestic debt climbed to Rs 39,791 billion during the same timeframe. This reflects a notable rise of Rs 14,506 billion in total borrowings compared to the preceding year.
To provide context, in August 2022, the total debt volume was notably lower at Rs 49,571 billion. It is important to highlight that during the same period, foreign debt stood at $18 trillion, and local debt amounted to Rs 32,152 billion.
