In a major relief for electricity consumers, Nepra has approved a Rs1.71 per unit reduction in power prices for three months, from April to June 2025. This follows the federal government’s request as part of efforts to lower tariffs and boost electricity demand nationwide. During a public hearing on April 4, it was clarified that the earlier announced Rs7.41 per unit cut by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif includes this Rs1.71 relief through the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL). Nepra’s written order confirmed no objections, as the price cut does not affect the regulator’s determined tariff and will be covered by government subsidies from expected PDL collections. The order has been sent to the government for official notification.
