Misbah-ul-Haq, the former Pakistan captain and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Cricket Technical Committee (CTC), recently shared his perspective regarding leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed’s placement in the list of traveling reserves as opposed to being part of the initial 15-member squad for the ICC World Cup 2023.
Misbah conveyed his belief that Abrar Ahmed should have been included in the final 15-member squad, citing the ‘poor performance’ of spin bowlers during the recent Asia Cup in 2023 as a key reason.
He pointed out that both he and Muhammad Hafeez, another member of the CTC, advocated for Abrar’s inclusion in the squad. However, he underscored the fact that the ultimate decisions on such matters rest with the team management and captain Babar Azam.
During the World Cup 2023 match against Australia, Pakistan introduced a change by substituting vice-captain Shadab Khan with Usama Mir. This alteration sparked discussions about Pakistan’s spin bowling options.
