Govt Allocates Rs. 29 Billion for 11,421 Employees as Utility Stores Set to Shut Down

The government has confirmed that Utility Stores Corporation (USC) will permanently shut down by July 31, 2025, due to continued financial losses and poor performance. A committee headed by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is reviewing options to support employees, including a Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS). If approved for all 11,421 workers, the scheme could cost over Rs. 29 billion, though it may be limited to the 5,217 regular employees.
