DIG Traffic: New Cameras to Make Driving on Shahrah-e-Faisal Feel Like ‘Pul-e-Sirat’

DIG Traffic Police Pir Muhammad Shah announced that road accidents in Karachi have decreased following the launch of e-challans. Speaking at an event at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce, he said strict enforcement and the installation of new cameras have tightened monitoring on major routes, especially Shahrah-e-Faisal. He reminded motorists that the road is not a motorway and speeding above 60 km/h will not be allowed, adding that motorcycles will be restricted to bike lanes from December. According to Shah, daily fatalities have dropped from three to two, with 46 deaths reported last month, reflecting the impact of digital enforcement. He stressed that fines are set according to global standards and cannot be adjusted based on income, though first-time offenders can have their fines waived digitally at designated centers. He warned that effective deterrence is essential for discipline and said FIRs will be registered against anyone caught tampering with number plates.
