The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named former cricketer Aqib Javed as the interim head coach for the national team’s white-ball formats. This decision follows Gary Kirsten’s resignation last month. Aqib will serve in this role until the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, after which a permanent coach will be appointed.
Post-Champions Trophy, Aqib Javed will also join the selection committee to further strengthen the team’s management. The PCB aims to enhance its strategy and streamline operations ahead of upcoming major tournaments.
This appointment comes after a challenging phase for the PCB, including disputes with Gary Kirsten over revoking the coaching staff’s selection powers. During the Australia tour, Jason Gillespie temporarily took over as the white-ball coach, bridging the gap until a longer-term solution was found.
