Over 164,000 nationals of Pakistan have been deported from Gulf countries over the past five years, according to official data presented in the National Assembly.
The figures show that Saudi Arabia recorded the highest number of deportations, followed by the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, and Bahrain.
The statistics were shared during a parliamentary session marked by opposition protests over political and health-related issues, prompting renewed debate on challenges faced by Pakistani workers abroad.
Officials said most deportations were linked to violations of immigration and labour laws, including overstaying visas, working without proper documentation, breaching employment terms, involvement in illegal activities, and non-compliance with local regulations. Stricter enforcement of immigration rules in Gulf states has also contributed to the rising figures.
Lawmakers called for improved awareness campaigns, stronger coordination with host countries, and better monitoring systems to ensure migrant workers understand legal requirements before travelling abroad.
Experts warned that the high deportation rate could affect Pakistan’s international reputation and create difficulties for job seekers, especially as overseas workers remain a key source of remittances for the country.
