Sunrisers Leeds Sign Abrar Ahmed for The Hundred in IPL-Linked Deal

Pakistan leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed has been signed by Sunrisers Leeds in The Hundred draft, easing concerns that Pakistani players might be excluded due to political tensions. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) previously stated that all franchises in the 100-ball tournament would select players based on performance rather than nationality. Political tensions between India and Pakistan have long affected cricket relations, with Pakistani players absent from the Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2009. In the same draft, fast bowler Haris Rauf went unsold at his reserve price of £100,000, while Shaheen Shah Afridi withdrew from the auction. In the women’s draft, Pakistan players Fatima Sana and Sadia Iqbal also went unsold.
