Punjab Launches Crackdown on Illegal Housing Schemes

The Punjab government has intensified its crackdown on illegal housing societies, making its first major arrest in Lahore. Authorities detained the owner of a private scheme near Thokar, spread over 11,000 kanal, after uncovering large-scale financial irregularities and public losses. Officials revealed the developer, accused of transferring Rs8 billion to Dubai, had support from some LDA officials during the project’s setup. Notices have been issued to RUDA and LDA to provide records of housing schemes, especially those near the Ravi River, where recent floods damaged properties, including the home of actress Arifa Siddiqui. The DG assured that investigations will hold all responsible accountable and efforts will be made to recover funds for affected citizens.
