2025 Set to Be Among Top Three Warmest Years on Record, Says UN

The United Nations has warned that 2025 is on track to become one of the hottest years ever recorded, continuing a streak of record-breaking global temperatures. While it may not surpass 2024 as the hottest year, it will likely rank second or third, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The agency reported that greenhouse gas levels have reached new highs, trapping even more heat and making it increasingly difficult to keep global warming below 1.5°C in the coming years. However, WMO chief Celeste Saulo stressed that it is still possible to bring temperatures back to the 1.5°C target by the end of the century. The warning comes ahead of the COP30 UN climate summit in Brazil, where leaders will discuss urgent measures to combat the worsening climate crisis.
